Solar PV Installation In Britain
The British Government has made a pledge to cut Britain's carbon emissions by an ambitious 60% by the year 2050 at the latest. If that's a pledge that is going to be met, then there have to be some rapid changes. One of the means of cutting emission to this level is by encouraging more Brits to go solar.

The British Government has made a pledge to cut Britain's carbon emissions by an ambitious 60% by the year 2050 at the latest. If that's a pledge that is going to be met, then there have to be some rapid changes. One of the means of cutting emission to this level is by encouraging more Brits to go solar.

As things stand, there are only 1% of British homes using any kind of solar power generation. Compare that to Germany's 40% and the figure is pitiful at best, particularly as Germany has a very similar climate to the British one. And the weather is a commonly used excuse for not going solar. However, what isn't really considered is the fact that Britain experiences 65% as much solar radiation as Spain does and 55% as much as is experienced on the equator. So the weather really is not an excuse at all!

In a bid to get more people making the solar choice, the British Government's feed-in tariff comes into play. Essentially, the feed-in tariff enables those with solar panels to be paid a premium rate for every single unit of electricity that they produce. This even counts on the units they use themselves. There is then a bit of a bonus in a higher payment for units that a household or business with solar PV panels exports back to the grid.

All of this essentially means that solar panel installation has become more of an investment than an expense. With a realistic return on solar PV panels of around 8% a year and the fact that solar panel installations can add around 10% to the value of the your property, the investment is an attractive one.

The Government hope that this level of financial incentive will be enough to get more Britons generating eco-friendly electricity through solar panels. This in turn should contribute hugely to the pledges on carbon emissions.
